Copenhagen and Amsterdam

So it's been a while since my last blog post mostly because Copenhagen and Amsterdam are nuts, and it's taken me a little bit of time to recover, let alone reflect.  I've been in London for a few days now, and looking back on Amsterdam (6 days there) and Copenhagen (5 days there), John and I had a lot of fun and got a really good taste for both cities. Copenhagen is basically a smaller, more hipstery/artsy, cleaner version of Amsterdam, and both cities have beautiful gothic architecture (and Copenhagen has a mix of modern as well) decorating winding canals and also lively drug cultures (Amsterdam a bit more than Copenhagen). John and I did a mix of partying with hostel-mates and touristy things, including the Tivoli Gardens, Christiana, Rosenberg Slot, Botanical Gardens, a Canal Tour (of course featuring the Little Mermaid statue), and biking around the Nyhavn, Old Town, and Cristiana in Copenhagen and the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Dali/Bansky Museum, Anne Frank House, Dam Square, Vondelpark, Heineken Brewery Tour, Red Light District, and of course eating lots of stroopwaffels and going to the coffeehouses (different than cafes) in Amsterdam. I especially enjoyed the eclecticism in Copenhagen, which we saw through a witch-burning bonfire at the Nyhavn celebrating the Swedish mid-summer, and then also I found through some of the buildings, most notably a massive, beautiful waste building that a ski slope is being built on top of. Also especially in Copenhagen but also in Amsterdam, there are just an insane amount of very tall, beautifully blonde people that I was constantly amazed by, especially the little kids were so cute. Another thing that was a little funny in Amsterdam especially but also in Copenhagen was how people dance, its very subdued even in the clubs.

Anyways, John and I had a blast in Copenhagen and Amsterdam, I don't really feel the need to go back any time soon, but still very enjoyable. My first few days in London have been a blast - I love it so far - and more to come on that later!
